Reading time is estimated at about 225 words per minute.
What the counter measures
Words are detected with Unicode-aware letter and number matching, including common apostrophes and hyphens. The tool also reports characters, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and lines.
Results update in the browser as text changes. Nothing is submitted to NoFussKit, which makes the counter suitable for drafts that should remain on the device.
Reading and speaking time
Reading time uses 225 words per minute and speaking time uses 150 words per minute. Both estimates round up to a full minute for non-empty text.
Actual pace varies with language, complexity, audience and pauses. Use these values for planning, not as a guaranteed duration for every reader or speaker.

Sentences and paragraphs
Sentence counting looks for common ending punctuation such as periods, exclamation marks and question marks. Headings or list items without punctuation may be treated differently from prose.
Paragraphs are separated by a blank line, while every line break contributes to the line count. Formatting copied from rich editors may therefore affect the totals.

Compare word count with the requirements of an assignment, article or platform. Then review longest words and sentence totals to spot dense passages that may need editing.
